Knock knock! Who’s there? Doughnut. Doughnut Who? Doughnut forget the wedding cake.

Alright terrible I know but there’s something about a doughnut that just makes you feel fun, naughty and a bit of a kid again. So if you’re tired of the usual sweet table or sugar candy offerings at weddings then why not go all out for a doughnut finger licking feast. Whether you pile them high or arrange them neatly in boxes your guests will be in for a jam, chocolate, custard or apple treat, to name just a few of the flavours now available! Ooh yeah and don’t forget about the humble ring!

I’ve ordered just over a hundred doughnuts for an event before from Krispy Kreme in Bluewater. The staff were really helpful but sadly they don’t do a delivery service in Kent. So you’ll have to phone your order through and just send someone to collect them who won’t park on the M25 and eat the lot. That reason alone is why Emma never goes……

Combe Bank School, Sevenoaks

Set in a fantastic Sevenoaks location and built in 1728, Combe Bank’s fabulous groundsgrand front door and elegant style make it feel spacious and light.

The Adam Room is licensed for civil ceremonies of up to 60 seated guests or 100 guests with 40 standing. The Chapel is also licensed for ceremonies of up to 140 guests and may be used for a blessing.

For receptions the Dining Room can accommodate up to 140 guests with the Main Hall the perfect location for the evening party as it comes with it’s very own stage. The marquee can hold up to 300.

Boxley House, Maidstone

One of their other Kent venues is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, just outside Maidstone. Boxley House, is a beautiful 17th Century Jacobean Manor and has three main function rooms for you to choose from. The Garden Room and the Terrace Suite can both be used for the Wedding Breakfast with access out onto the terrace and 17 acres of parkland!

It has a license for Civil Ceremonies in the Drawing Room for up to 50 guests and the Terrace Suite for up to 80 guests. There’s also the marquee which seats up to 300.

Both venues would work really well in these traditional “out of season” months as they would look stunning dressed up for a mid-winter ball theme!

Today we have a little look into the wedding design world of Maggie Sottero and her Spring 2013 collection. We just love the soft pink colour of this first fishtail dress launched at New York International Bridal Fashion Week. The collection is not yet available in stores but what’s to stop you taking a look at all her other gorgeous gowns whilst you wait!

It’s a question that crops up a lot when planning your guest list; do you invite children to your wedding?

It may come down entirely on the type of wedding you are having and how much budget you have to play with. Extra bums on seats cost you money. Whether it’s a small bum or a big one if you are short on guest list space then leaving the kids at home seems as easy way to cut down on numbers. Fear not. If you are having small people at your wedding there are now loads and loads of ways to keep them entertained at a really reasonable cost.

Create Make & Share is run by two Kent mums, Zoe Wright and Kathryn Handy, who organise children’s party entertainment. Being mum’s themselves means they are well practised in looking after children and have a whole range of ideas and activities to entertain all ages. They will design a bespoke package to suit the needs of your day depending on how many children you have, their ages and the set up of your venue.

The types of activities on offer include face painting, glitter tattoos, themed party and garden games and a pirate and princess activity play which involves lots of dressing up, story telling fun and a treasure hunt. As part of their package they also include party bags and favours especially designed for the little ones. Zoe told us that “all our entertainers are fully insured, CRB checked, reliable and most importantly have bundles of energy and enthusiasm!”

If you need a babysitting service and your hotel or venue doesn’t offer one then try Bearsted Babes. They offer this and more and are great if you have lots of little ones that need one-to-one care away from the hustle and bustle of the wedding. Vicky Cruickshanks who runs the company says “we understand how important it is to feel secure in the knowledge that your children are being cared for in safe, stimulating and familiar surroundings, especially when you want to relax and have a good time”.

So if you are having little ones at your wedding then the best advice is just to plan ahead and where possible give them some entertainment to take the pressure off and make sure everyone can relax and have a good time.

Once you have juggled the percentages then you can start getting quotes. Suppliers will usually give you a quote based on the number of guests you have or the budget you have allocated. Once these are in you can then start putting actual costs against your percentages to give you a fully costed plan.
