This weekend we’re looking forward to the Vintage Wedding Fair at Hollamby’s Sunset Barn in Groombridge.
We’re joining suppliers such as Rebecca Douglas Photography, Frou Frou Bridal, Florist in the Forest, Vintage Rose Cupcakes, Alice and the Teacup, Painted with Love, Powder and Glow and many many more.
It’s a really different kind of wedding fair with a relaxed atmosphere and lots of fun along the way. On the day you can expect to be entertained with live music, a bridal pack with wedding magazines and discounts, a glass of bubbly on arrival, competitions and the chance to meet lots of lovely suppliers who can help you pack a punch when planning your vintage wedding. And of course you can meet us to chat through any wedding worries you might have.
We suggest you bring a picnic on the day and enjoy some breathtaking views across the Kent and Sussex countryside. Plus there’ll be a bar open serving beer, wine and soft drinks and you can even meet the local animals that call Hollambys Farm their home.
We look forward to seeing you there x
Cakes are generally the one thing that keeps the Wedding Dolls going during the week so today we’re a bit over excited to share with you Vintage Rose Cupcakes. In our book cupcakes make any occasion special but they work so well for an alternative wedding cake. Vintage Rose Cupcakes specialise in creating stunning cupcake towers and can provide big or cute little cupcakes in a variety of flavours, as well as a top tier cake if you’d like to have one to cut. Their cupcake recipes can also be made larger so you can get the best tasting tiered wedding cakes as well.
All the cupcake designs are inspired by a bygone age and handcrafted by Alexandra Harding in her kitchen in Tunbridge Wells. Alexandra says “our cupcakes are perfect for any celebration and also make wonderful gifts. Our gift boxed cupcakes are available for hand delivery within the Tunbridge Wells area free of charge.”
One to add to our speed dial list!
We love it when we get contacted by gorgeous suppliers who offer something that little bit different. Frenchmade is run by Lauren Grassi, who offers desserts tables, wedding cakes and favours all with Anglo-French flair. Dessert tables include a great selection of cakes and sweets such as madeleines, macarons, pies, tarts, tiered cakes, cupcakes, mini cakes, cannelés, biscuits, chocolate mendiants and financiers.
For your viewing pleasure here’s her vintage styled dessert table (which was for a birthday) but she can work around any theme to suit you and offers a free consultation. What’s more there is currently 20% off all favour orders.
Hurrah, our new website has arrived and we’re so excited! We hope you love it as much as we do! To say a massive thanks to all our loyal blog readers that have followed us to our new home we are running a fantastic competition to win one of five places to our Wedding Planning Workshop in October.
At the workshop we will guide you through the highs and lows of wedding planning and you’ll learn how to create a wedding that is on track, on budget and lots of fun!
If you don’t know where to start or are feeling a bit panicky about everything you need to do we’ll show you how to turn your wedding vision into a reality. You’ll learn how to break down the planning stages so nothing gets on top of you, set your budget so costs don’t spiral out of control, discover your own wedding style and help you find the best suppliers for what you need. You’ll also learn how you can get everything done in time with an easy to follow schedule. You’ll leave the workshop feeling calm, excited and ready to plan the wedding you want.
All you need to do to win your place is email firstname.lastname@example.org and tell us your name, the date of your wedding (if you have one yet!) and why you feel you need some wedding planning help.
Good luck x
The Small Print Bit
Closing date is 10am on Friday 21st September 2012. The competition winners will need to be able to attend our workshop on Sunday 14th October starting at 9.30am, at Hotel du Vin, Tunbridge Wells. Winners will be selected at random and the offer is not transferable. Winners will be notified by email on Saturday 22nd September.
Sorting out your bridal party is full of pitfalls, who you ask and who you don’t, who will be best at certain jobs and who will be the most fun etc.
So how about cutting out any of these issues and just ask your BFF – the one who won’t mind who they sit next to at dinner and will just be happy if you chuck them a bone. Yes now your hairiest pal can get in on the wedding act.
And of course any fashion forward pooch will need it’s own wedding outfit – we love these cute crocheted bow ties from Charlie Hearts Diesel.
Go on over to Pinterest to see our doggy inspiration board but one last word though, make sure your venue is happy to include guests that require a pooper scooper….
Photobooths have become really popular over the last couple of years and lots of photographers now add this type of thing to their wedding package. But if you are looking to do it that little bit differently then our money would go on Leo Ferenc and his team from Coco Photobooths.
We met photographer and film maker, Leo, at a wedding fair earlier this year and his unique idea of putting a photo booth into a taxi really stood out from the crowd – we just loved it. If you are looking to inject something memorable into your day then we’d say give it a go. All that will be left to do is SMILE!

I just love this car. I’ve always been slightly miffed that on my own wedding day I was within easy walking distance so never got to have a gorgeous vehicle to get me to the church on time. But if I did this would have been first on my list.
Polly Pootles is a classic VW Beetle chauffeur driven service that really stands out from the crowd. Based in Kent, Helen, the very lovely owner and chauffeuse, used the 1968 VW beetle at her wedding day in 2008. It then underwent a professional restoration and came out the other side looking very sparkly and a gorgeous pearl white in colour.
Helen started using Pootles to chauffeur other couples on their big day and has been pootling to fabulous weddings for the past 3 years. She regularly blogs about the weddings she’s been to so you can get ideas and inspiration on how the VW can be used to make your day extra special.

They’ve got a great selection of decorations from patriotic red, white and blue if you fancy supporting Team GB or paper hangers and pom poms galore for a gorgeous vintage tea party.
Last week we featured big balloons as an idea for a cheap and effective way to decorate your venue, it was a big hit so you’ll be pleased to know they’re available at Pearl and Earl too.

It’s here, the official opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics is tonight and to celebrate we’ve put together a gold wedding inspiration board. Here is just a taster of what’s on the full Pinterest board, so race over (see what I did there..) and check it out.
All that’s left to say is GO Team GB! We’ll be cheering for you!

There’s nothing like a bit of bling at a wedding and the latest trend from our American cousins has it just right. Sequin bridesmaid dresses seem to be everywhere across the pond and we’re sure it will be big here too in 2013.
Sequins always add a bit of glamour and give an amazing sparkle against the photographers flash. In soft colours sequin bridesmaid dresses look fantastic at a summer wedding and in warm dark colours they add hollywood glitz to any winter wedding.
