We first met Carol when she attended one of our creative wedding workshops with her mum. Carol was really into her DIY details and we knew that giving her guests a fun filled time was a very important factor in her wedding plans.

Wanting a relaxed atmosphere the couple booked the very gorgeous Goudhurst Village Hall.  With no on-site manager and lots of elements to pull together Carol needed us to make sure all the set up was done perfectly and all the things she had planned happened at the right time. She booked our Dolly on the Day co-ordination service and together we became a great team.

As with many village halls Carol found herself with a blank canvas to work with and her creativity was just brilliant. Paper pompoms, garlands and bunting made the hall look fantastic, whilst friends and family brought along homemade cakes, a Mexican band serenaded guests on arrival,  Czech fizz was served, garden games kept everyone giggling and the fun of their singing bridesmaids made this wedding a dream to work on.

The Bride and Groom beamed from ear to ear all day and their guests loved every minute. The dancing didn’t just start in the evening at this wedding, oh no, there were guests up on their feet during the wedding breakfast thoroughly enjoying the music and the fun filled atmosphere. Carol loved every minute of her planning and her stunning DIY details were testimony to the loving care she put into making sure her guests enjoyed her day just as much as she did.

With yet another team of great suppliers from Martin Briggs Photography, DJ Lucci, Dine Thyme, The Charcoal Pig, Paladins Classic Car hire, Juliets Catering and Jubilee Hire this wedding was a joy to be a part of.

I love a weekend away. Nothing beats taking off for a few days and just relaxing and enjoying yourself in good old Blighty. With no airport hassle, passport control and driving on the wrong side of the road to contend with, you can just pitch up, unpack and get to the nearest pub sharpish.

As wedding budgets get tighter the traditional honeymoon is something that many wedding couples are deciding to delay until the bank balance looks a bit healthier. Ergo the rise of the Mini-moon takes hold and we’ve got five cracking places for you to spend your first few days as husband and wife, all without blowing the budget.

1. 5 The Lawn

With lots of glowing reports from lucky visitors this romantic retreat is tucked away on a private road of ten Georgian Villas in St.Leonards, East Sussex and is a great base for exploring the local area. Lovingly built for two, you’ll find everything you need and then some. With its own indoor heated pool, rainbow shower, surround-sound cinema and a fresh water jacuzzi on the terrace, this gorgeous hideaway is perfect for going out, as well as very luxurious staying in.

2. The George in Rye

A personal favourite, I love this gorgeous hotel, where you can dine and relax in style after a days shopping in the many fantastic boutiques along Rye’s quaint little high street. Take a stroll around the harbour or have a lovely walk along the nearby beaches. With gorgeous rooms and a great menu you’ll be back for more.

3. Writer’s Cottage, Whitstable

Enjoy a good book? Then you’ll love Writer’s Cottage to bring out your creative side. Close to all the fabulous pubs and restaurants that Whitstable has to offer this little gem is fantastic for a cosy seaside break. Rent it through Mulberry Cottages or check out their other many romantic little hideaways dotted all over Kent.

4. Elvey Farm, Pluckley

We’ve not managed to get to this one yet but have had heard plenty of good things from those that have. A medieval farmstead, there are eleven rooms at Elvey farm, each one packed full of original features and set in either the Oast House, the old Granary, the Sixteenth Century Barn or the Stable Block. There’s a great menu and the team are very proud of the fact that they use Kent produce from local suppliers. Everything here is fresh, home-made and hearty. Perfect for farm loving folk who like all of life’s little luxuries. Just don’t forget your Hunters for those countryside walks!

5. The Reading Rooms, Margate

Margate might not be first on your list for a romantic break but this town is seriously ramping up it’s tourism charm with the Turner Contemporary for a bit of culture and lots of fabulous cafes and bars. In summer you can hop down to our favourite beach, Joss Bay for a surfing lesson or two or visit nearby Canterbury for a spot of retail therapy. Our accommodation of choice here is The Reading Rooms, which is a small but perfectly formed Georgian B&B. A design haven, the three rooms here cover an entire floor each. Look closely and you might have seen it before on Channel 4’s The Hotel Inspector.

So will you be going on a mini-moon?  We’d love to know where!

Happy Planning!

Here at the Wedding Dolls we’re taking a little break over Christmas – mostly as we can’t type and stuff in mince pies at the same time – so we’ll be back half a stone heavier and raring to go in the New Year. All that leaves us to say is to a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last year, it’s been a joy working with so many talented people and lots of love and hugs to our families and friends who are absolutely, extremely, most completely fantastic.

With much love,

Emma & Joanne xxx

P.S Make sure you look out for our round-up of last year’s best bits on New Years Day!

When it comes to personalising your wedding nothing is going to beat having a pair of bespoke wedding shoes.

Figgie Shoes, based in Canada, will personalise your choice of shoe with a custom made design for a totally unique pair of wedding heels. You’ll need to buy your own and then get them shipped over for the design to be done. The artwork starts from $250, so although it might make a bit of a dent in the wedding budget it will be completely different!

I finally got round to watching this film over the weekend with some friends and we couldn’t stop laughing as we all recognised ourselves in some way, shape or form.

I have been a bridesmaid 10 times (yes really) and have seen countless Brides make huge mistakes when it comes to bridesmaids and what they expect.

As with the film, Bridesmaids are all individuals and therefore throw up all sorts of unique problems. There are “fantastic bridesmaids” who are fun, caring and nothing is too much trouble to make your day great. There’s the “it’s all about me bridesmaids” who don’t care what you want as long as they have their choice of everything, the “doesn’t really want to be there bridesmaid”  who only accepted because she couldn’t think of a good enough excuse and finally, but worse of all, the rogue bridesmaid.

The rogue bridesmaid will not turn up to appointments for fittings, will change all decisions at the last moment and then won’t care if she does a Gok Wan on her dress 10 minutes before you are due to leave for the ceremony.

So Brides please choose your Bridesmaids very carefully but, and this is really important, you have a duty to be realistic about your Bridesmaids capabilities. Don’t forget that on the big day Bridesmaids will need to be preened and photographed and will be nervous too – so don’t expect them to be able to complete a large to do list of extra jobs. They just won’t be able to fit it all in. Equally don’t expect your usually unorganised best friend to suddenly turn into a super task ticking fiend who can get your hen do sorted in three weeks flat and don’t make any of your girls pay for their outfits unless you’ve discussed this upfront when asking them to be involved.

Think carefully about what you want from your Bridesmaids and who out of all your loved ones will fit the bill. Pick Bridesmaids who will be totally reliable and above all help you have fun. It is after all what us girls are good at.

I just love this car. I’ve always been slightly miffed that on my own wedding day I was within easy walking distance so never got to have  a gorgeous vehicle to get me to the church on time. But if I did this would have been first on my list.

Polly Pootles is a classic VW Beetle chauffeur driven service that really stands out from the crowd. Based in Kent, Helen, the very lovely owner and chauffeuse, used the 1968 VW beetle at her wedding day in 2008. It then underwent a professional restoration and came out the other side looking very sparkly and a gorgeous pearl white in colour.

Helen started using Pootles to chauffeur other couples on their big day and has been pootling to fabulous weddings for the past 3 years. She regularly blogs about the weddings she’s been to so you can get ideas and inspiration on how the VW can be used to make your day extra special.

This week has been full of excitement and anticipation. Not least as the Olympics has arrived in London town but that our new website is almost ready to go. That was until we hit a slight wordpress snag. We’re desperately trying to work out how NOT to manually move over 500 blog images from to as it doesn’t seem to want to do it automatically for us. If anyone has any idea there’s free wedding planning sessions in it!

The WD’s rethink their IT strategy

On the blog this week we’ve got caught up with Olympic Fever by having a special Going for Gold blog post which is an inspiration board of all things gold for a wedding. It’s such a great accent colour for anytime of year and you can use it as little or as much as you like to compliment any theme.

Our designer of the week was the brilliant Claire Pettibone whose dresses we have admired for ages. If you want to float like an Ethereal Queen through your wedding day then these are the gowns for you.

We just love a lotion or new potion at the Wedding Dolls and just some of our favourite products come from the range by Mitchell and Peach, which is produced right here in Kent. Our Fantastic Find of the week is their miniature set – just perfect for that honeymoon carry case.

Next up was all talk as we looked into Brides making a speech on their wedding day. Traditionally left to the guys, we now find more and more brides want to be part of the speech line up so they can thank their loved ones themselves or pay tribute to their gorgeous new hubbie. Would you? Find out more in Speechless Brides.

This week we also gave you the heads up on the next big thing for Bridesmaids coming to a wedding near you in 2013. Yes it’s bling’s best friend Sequins, and lots of them. See how you can get your Bridesmaids kitted out and bang up to date in next to no time.

Lastly our Saturday Shopping tip this week was for online store Pearl and Earl. It’s got  loads of good little buys to help decorate your venue and is also a great place to buy those latex balloons we were banging on about last week. If you’re bored with the Olympics already you’ve just found something to do instead!

Happy Sunday Everyone

Evening All

It’s been a bit of a long day as I recover from attending a special event held last night in The Swan in West Malling (more to come on this gorgeous restaurant that make a perfect wedding venue!) so I apologise for the lateness of the summary!  While I sit here thinking about what’s been on the blog this past week I’m being side tracked to thinking about what’s coming up next week.  It’s all getting very exciting here at Wedding Dolls HQ, our sparkly new website is nearly ready and plans to launch some very exiting projects are almost finalised, it may be a gloomy, rainy summer so far but we’re definitely feeling bright and sunny and can’t wait to share everything with you all.

So as I take a look back, here’s what happened on the blog this week.

Our Frock of the fortnight was a beautiful dress by Mori Lee by Madeline Gardner, AMAZING is all I can think to say about it, the wonderful shape of this dress is definitely my favourite!

Then we featured the wonderful DC Bouquets again to show you an alternative to the usual wedding bouquet and hair accessories.  These creative one of designs will make you feel really special on your big day.

Still trying to decide wether to invite children? we showed you how to make it easy, by calling in the experts Bearstead Babes to take charge of the situation.

We hope you saw the Caroline Castigliano Sample Sale dates 10th-14th July and managed to book your place!

In our inspirational ideas post we shared some beautiful images to inspire you, easy to re-create for your own summer celebrations, there’s nothing like lanterns to light up your wedding.

For anyone getting married this week, Good Luck and Enjoy!

See you next week
